Feet pointing at the door
A popular body-language hint that attention is fading.
What it is
The idea, popular in body-language books, is that feet point where a person wants to go. If someone's feet or body turn towards the exit, they may be ready to leave.
How to use it
- Treat it as a hint, never proof. It works best alongside other signs, like checking the time.
- Respond by summarising and asking a question that brings them back in.
- Or offer to wrap up and agree a next step: respecting their time builds trust.
What it sounds like
You: I'm conscious of your time. Shall I sum up the two options and we agree what happens next?
Where it goes wrong
The research behind single body-language cues is thin. Do not build a decision on one gesture, and it rarely applies on video calls.
