Blink rate
Faster blinking can mean stress or heavy thinking. It is not a lie detector.
What it is
Research links blink rate to mental effort and stress, so some sales trainers teach watching for changes. A sudden change can mean someone is processing something difficult, like a price.
How to use it
- Notice changes in a cluster with other signals, not on their own.
- When you sense strain, slow down and ask: "How does that sit with you?"
- Give people time with numbers before you move on.
What it sounds like
You: I have just thrown a lot of numbers at you. What questions do you have so far?
Where it goes wrong
Blink rate cannot tell you whether someone is lying, and it is near impossible to judge on a video call. Use it as a reason to ask, never to conclude.
